What do you think of the name Mary with the nickname May?

I love Mary and I don't think it needs a nickname. But May is nice and it works.

I like Mary but It seems a little silly to use May as a nickname when there is only a one letter differnce.

Mary is too common for my taste by itself, as I have a sister with the name, as well as several other family members named either Mary, Marie, Maria, Marilyn or some other form. But, I do like the combo names with it - Mary-Kate, Mary-Grace, Mary-Jane, Mary-Lou, Mary Beth, etc.
