How do you pronounce... Maike?
It's the name of the German foreign exchange student I'll be hosting in March!!!
I'd kind of like to know how to say her name before she gets here LOL.

MY-kuh? Just a guess! German exchanges are so fun heart I had a lovely girl named Carolin come to stay last year and I went there too. :D Have fun!

I'll third the Mike-ah pronunciation. It just makes the most logical sense. If the Dutch say it like Mike, Geman probably isn't that far off, hence Mike-ah. Best best though? Make a sign up for when you pick her up at the airport and then when you get face to face say Hi, I'm ----insert name here---- , and if you're lucky, she'll jump right in with a "Hi --insert name here I'm --- " and she'll say her own name. If not, you can politely ask.. "and how exactly do you pronounce you name, it looks lovely!"
This coming from someone who hosted a Hungarian girl my Junior year in high school and I didn't know how to say her name then either. That's how I got to learn her name! (it was Ágota, for the record)
